Elfina Jean-Baptiste, 22, who was in Port-au-Prince working as a maid, was riding a tap-tap minibus at the moment of the earthquake, and her leg was injured when the vehicle overturned. A friend with a motorcycle gave her a ride back to her home village of Ivoire, where, she says, her family was "astonished to see me alive."
